 Welcome to Match/SaturDADS
CORNWALL

Match (Men and their children)
is run by Ian Parsons (Think Fathers Champion) to support the aims of the Think Fathers campaign of the Fatherhood Institute, to develop father-inclusive approaches and enable transformation in children's, family and health services, to systematically engage with fathers and support father-child and parental relationships.
Match also offers help, support and links on all issues effecting a father and his child.  Although we cant give advise on legal issues we can give support and assistance in finding such help.

SaturDADS
is held on a Saturday at different venues throughout the month. The session commences with a breakfast club for the dads and we offer the children a smaller portion. Tea, coffee and orange juice is on offer through out the session. All of the sessions continue with varied themes based on healthy living and father/child engagement. Some examples of previous activities are soccer skills, nature hunts, drumming workshops and field trips, to name a few.
We offer support, help and professional sign posting if needed.
Access to training, further education and volunteer work are also available.

What can I say about SaturDADs that hasn't already been said? What can I write that you will want to read? Well, I could mention the type of things that we've been doing in the last twelve months, like the alternative Christmas Party for the Dads. What an alternative that was; although I think you will find that everyone who came really enjoyed themselves, even with a lack of alcohol !

Or there was the trip to the local fire station where I haven't seen so many dads turn up before.....or since! With a tour of the station, a go on the hoses and the chance to climb in and out of the fire engines, plus the Easter egg hunt at Tehidy Park and the visit to the Alpacas at Blackrock, all of which were very enjoyable, and the children liked them too.

I could also mention the other occasions when we have been back at Sure Start, with the children, doing what it's all about - spending time with them and meeting other dads. I won't mention the CD (still available at a reasonable £2.99) because, even though that was really enjoyable, people are sick of hearing how we did it!

I might try and mention the committee that we have set up (I’ve ended up as Chairman) and if you want something done a bit differently let us know. We are always happy to see new faces - it's OK, we don't bite much!

What I must say about is the hard work
Kim, Ian and Julia put in every month that makes SaturDADS the success it is. Oh! I’ve run out of room. I'll have to mention all this another time. Sorry! RR

Another Saturday morning spent with my son at the Trevu Centre in Camborne. I've grown to love these times and the monthly morning has become special for us both. SaturDADS is our time, and we look forward to it. It's a time where he can lead the way, as he learns and grows in ways that he wouldn't get the chance to if we stayed at home for the day.

But for me it has been positive too, in a different way, we moved from our roots and have started to put down new ones. I feel that SaturDADS has helped me to feel part of something, it turns out that its something quite special; user friendly, social, and relaxed. It's been helpful to talk to other dads about parenting and the changes a baby brings into your life.

Today I introduced a friend of my sons to SaturDADS, oh yeah, also his dad came along to and not just for the cooked breakfast. We really enjoyed seeing them play together. They usually play together at nursery and always tell stories when they get home about what they did, seeing them today helped to really understand that part of their world and to feel involved in it in a deep way.
This SaturDADS will be remembered for the times playing outside, helping kids to learn to share ride on toys and bikes, helping little ones to get up when they fall and to find dad, the politeness of kids asking for more paper to paint on, the excitement and laughter of all the kids running about with so many things to do, and showing off to their friends and dads, in that magical way only kids can. Hang on though there's more, the really helpful staff that seem to remember your names and even the special tea i like. The dad and his son i introduced today had a great time; that backs it all up for me and my belief that SaturDADS is spot on. MD
